Many counsellors consciously encourage a self reflective relationship with the body as part of the process of tuning into what can be observed and understood as we work together with people
Something you really get to work with and learn from when you practice TRE® is the power of that visceral reality
Tension and trauma is not only taken up by the mind psychologically it is taken up by the body too
To put it another way the meaning of what Antonio Demazio say’s when he writes ”the mind is embodied not embrained’ is made very tangible in TRE®
Introducing a TRE® session can fit well with ongoing counselling work or vice versa.
Building capacity for self regulation and self reflection are found in both counselling and TRE® and with that in common they cross over in a very complimentary way and both can be enhanced
In TRE® the tremors are the therapy so the client is facilitated to stay with their body awareness of the tremors with steady containment.
Becoming aware of what you notice in your body – just at the level of sensation – moving away from the story or the emotional content of a concern is a titration or containment technique – in trauma counselling the meaning of the persons story matters and we work with it but only at a pace a person can process the flow of their energy in a calm state
In TRE® we also don’t rush or push , we track change , notice sensation, orient to parts of the body or breath – constantly negotiating containment and how we re-regulate our system opening up our window of tolerance.
There are places language does not reach – for me with TRE® there is this direct connection as I shake with an aspect of the ‘hidden’ reality of my unconscious life that is simply not known to me through language – in TRE® the unknown becomes more knowable and for me that means my ‘world’ feels like a safer place
