A few moments are beneficial but the MORE the better
Earthing (or grounding) refers to connecting electrically with the Earth. A growing body of research is finding numerous health benefits when the naked human body is connected to the earth’s energy, including being in water. We know when using TRE® that people often become ungrounded (unearthed). This is because the experience of the body involuntary moving is too much for the cortex/ego mind. So the cortex triggers the stress response (freeze, flood or dissociate – watch this video to learn more) and the person is not in their body/ is ungrounded. It is therefore, important to have the skills of awareness of this experience and to be able to re-ground yourself. This might be rubbing your hands together, orienting by looking around the room, counting down from 100 to 1 or smelling something like coffee. But the great thing is if you earth regularly outside of TRE® then you are less likely to lose grounding during a shake and if you do, you will re-ground more quickly.
The Founder – Clint Ober
Clint Ober is the innovator behind Earthing. A series of seemingly unrelated yet highly synchronistic events dating back to his early childhood led to a groundbreaking discovery.
He first learned about grounding when installing Cable TV systems in Billings, Montana in the early 1960s. And his career in the field of cables and electronics led to great success and a knowledge of how earthing is essential in that field for safety.
Following a major health challenge in 1995, he retired and embarked on a personal journey looking for a higher purpose in life. During his travels, he noticed people wearing plastic and rubber soled shoes that insulate the body from earth. He wondered if no longer being naturally grounded could affect us. The question led to an experiment that suggested grounding alone reduced chronic pain and improved sleep.
Thereafter, he developed a working hypothesis: Grounding the human body to the Earth normalizes the functioning of all of the body’s systems — the body utilizes the earth’s electrical potential and free electrons to maintain its internal electrical stability, normalizing all of its self-regulating and self-healing systems.
It’s incredible to think that even walking bare foot can heal dis-ease. When bare feet (or any part of the body) connect with the ground or water, there is a transfer of free electrons from the earth through the skin. These electrons are the most powerful antioxidants known. By scavenging and neutralising free radicals in the body, antioxidants help to ease inflammation as well as cell and tissue damage.
As well as having bare skin on the earth itself, there are earthing products you can use in your own home. You can buy a sleep sheet, computer mat, feet mat, arm band etc. and plug them in to the house plug socket, without turning it on, and be earthed (as all houses are earthed).
Earthing is particularly recommended while sleeping. We spend many hours of each day sleeping; it is the time when the body is repairing, rebuilding and regenerating; and being grounded optimises these processes, and also improves the general quality of sleep. TRE© Scotland recommends this sheet.
Reconnect with the Earth’s natural energy
The Earth is a massive reservoir of negatively charged free electrons. Without a connection to this reservoir, the cells in our body are unable to balance the positive charge which results from things like electron-deficient free radicals. Our modern environment is full of wide spectrum of electromagnetic radiation, from computers, mobile phones & masts, Bluetooth etc. This radiation induces voltages in our bodies, disrupting the human’s own energy. By being earthed we greatly reduce the levels of these voltages.
